It has three 18 bedded wards Aneurin, Cynan and Gwalchmai, it also has an extra care facility Taliesin. It has five 10 bedded houses A, C, D,E and F, it also has an extra care facility House B. Further inforrmation about the Ablett Unit and the learning opportunities it offers may be obtained from Martin Wright (01248 383180) Llwyn y GroesSituated at Ysbyty Maelor in Wrexham Llwyn y Groes provides acute in-patient services for the North East Wales NHS Trust. Elderly Mental HealthBodnant Ward and Day HospitalAlthough Bodnant Ward and Day Hospital serves part of the Conway and Denbighshire National Health Trust it receives some of its staff support from the North West Wales Trust which many people consider odd. The ward itself offers in-patient, intensive rehabilitation to elderly people with both functional and organic mental health problems, the intention is to treat people, arrange a package of continuing care and move people back to their own homes in order to maintain independence. Whilst the Day Hospital may form part of the continuing care package 'it ain't necessarily so!' some Day Hospital Clients have never been inpatients in the Ward. Students at Bodnant have the opportunity to attend and participate in the Memory Clinic a useful means of identifying clients with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia and monitoring their progress. Bodnant is also the base for a team of Community Mental Health Nurses specialising in problems of the elderly, having the team based in the Unit facilitates close liaison and cooperation between the different groups of staff. Students opting for placement at Bodnant will have the opportunity of receiving comprehensive experience of care provision for the elderly with mental health problems.
